April 12th Nintendo Direct (Splatoon 2 & ARMS)

Nintendo Recently had their latest Nintendo Direct for April talking about some upcoming Nintendo 3DS and Switch titles along with a better look at ARMS and Splatoon. First I'm going to give you my thoughts on the main attractions, Splatoon 2 and ARMS, then later I'll give my thoughts on the other announcements on another post. If you want to watch for yourself here are the links to the individual ARMS & Splatoon 2 Sections.

Here are my thoughts, DIRECTLY to you.
(-_- I miss Iwata...)

Also, let me know your thoughts on this and what games your excited for. The comment section is down there for a reason...
...Its so lonely.

ARMS

Nintendo showed off some "New-ish" information about ARMS. I say "new-ish" because they didn't go over a lot of stuff, just giving a better idea of what we knew about. With that said, they still showed us some legit new stuff that's exciting, even if they did so unintentionally.

One surprise that I thought was really cool was the reveal of 2 Vs. 2 player matches. We also learned a little more about how the weapons work and there different elemental attributes like fire, ice, and electricity. We also met Biff, the commentator... he was cool.

However, the biggest part of this section was the announcement of the new character Min Min. Her special ARMS are made of Ramen Noodles and her special ARMS weapon is a Dragon that when powered up can fire a large laser. She also uses kicks to help block opponents attacks. She looks like a cool character to play as and adds some new variety. I would say that the other 4 characters would provide some variety, but they aren't officially announced yet.

...oops...

That was the ARMS portion of this direct and overall it was good. I do feel like Nintendo is going to give another character video like they did with the first 5 characters to introduce the secret four. One more cool thing that I think I can close off with is that the game releases 06/16/17, LITERALLY THE DAY AFTER E3! Now I really need to see what Nintendo does for E3 this year. Which is only about 8 weeks away, hype train is boarding.

Splatoon 2

With Splatoon 2 section only 3 major things were revealed. The first and most interesting is that Splatoon 2 introduces a brand new game mode called Salmon Run. This is Splatoon 2's answer to Call of Duty ZOMBIES.

This mode has you and three friends splatting  waves upon waves of evil salmon creatures in order to retrieve items known as Power Eggs, which help you get "fresh gear" from the main hub, Inkopolis. I like the look of this mode, it still offers that same fun co-op, but with a new spin. I like the look of the salmon creatures. They look like what zombies would look like in the world of Splatoon. Each type is unique and has different modes of attacking. Some are huge and give away gold power eggs, which seems to be the main collectible in the special mode. This game mode looks really interesting, and looking at this sparked a bit of a game theory in my mind.

You might recall that the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire was announced in February, about a month before the Switch actually launched and way before the release date of Splatoon 2 was given. (More on that in a bit) Don't you think its a bit odd that Nintendo announced that before the Switch even released? I suspect that Nintendo let us try the Global Testfire first to let us get a feel of the new gameplay, and are later going to have another testfire this time themed to Salmon Run. Again this would make a decent E3 announcment. But hey, that's just a theory. A GA--

(What do you mean I can't say that!?)

Anyway, the other big announcement is that Splatoon 2 is getting special amiibo.

These amiibo will give you the ability to save items from your inkling in game and save it to the amiibo. Along with new amiibo challenges to get brand new gear. Plus, the original amiibo are compatible with the new game. Along with these amiibo, the game launches July 21st, 2017. (Well the game is, the amiibo will be available on eBay July 21 for $99.99) Again, great job to Nintendo for giving a release date, and now I really have to know what is going to be at their E3 press conference this year.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on Splatoon 2 and ARMS. I will share my thoughts on the other games Nintendo announced very soon. Until then, what did you like about the Nintendo Direct and are you picking ARMS or Splatoon 2. Let me know your thoughts. Till then, catch you guys next time.
