Well... It has been quite the minute my friends.
Long time, no see.
Let's see if I still got this...
Hey guys, this is Brian from Nintendo Gamepoint+ and...
HOLY CRAB APPLES, MARIO IS AN ELEPHANT!!!!
So, Nintendo held their June Direct and it was filled with a lot of big and interesting announcements. Today, I'm just gonna give my quick opinions and thoughts about some of the bigger announcements, the ones that really interested me, and some other points I thought of after the direct.
Sonic Superstars (Fall 2023) - Looks really cool. I love multiplayer side-scrollers like this and I'm the visuals help make it stand out so nicely. Its like a 2D, Sonic themed, Mario 3D World. I think that's a perfect idea. I am a bit nervous about how they're going to take the Sonic formula of platforming and make it multiplayer, but I did enjoy Sonic Mania, which is the basis of this platformer, so I'm still excited to play it.
Persona 5 Tactica (Nov. 17th) - I'm not the biggest RPG guy, but even I will admit to liking Persona 5 and the overall world of Persona. This game does look good, reminds me of Mario + Rabbids. Not just in gameplay, but in style as well. I might pick this up.
Splatoon 3 Splatfest (July 14th - 16th) - Mint Chocolate Chip Rules, WHAT!
Detective Pikachu Returns (Oct. 6th) - FINALLY! This game got announced back in 2019 and we finally get to see it in action on Switch. Though I do think the graphics need just a little more polish, just in the lighting department. I love mysteries and whodunnits, so already this game has my interest. I unfortunately missed out on the original 3DS entry, at the time it wasn't my cup of tea, but I along with every Nintendo & Pokemon fan did see the movie and I am very interested to see how this game interprets the story and look forward to it.
Quick question: Where is the subtitle? Originally it was called Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Why not keep that title? Does Square still own that or something? |
Super Mario RPG Remake (Nov. 17th) - This is one of my favorite types of remakes/remasters. Updating the visuals & artstyle with so much personality and character yet keeping that charm and style of the original. This game looks great, this was the Mario RPG before everything else (Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi, etc.) so its great to see Nintendo acknowledge the past and give it a proper update. It makes me a bit nervous to play, again not the biggest RPG guy, but I love the Super Paper Mario & M&L games so I'm definetly going to give this game a go.
Untitled Princess Peach Game (2024) - I really enjoyed Super Princess Peach on Nintendo DS. So, seeing this game, I only had one reaction...
I am so happy that we are finally getting a new Princess Peach themed game. I love it when Nintendo makes her playable outside of spin-off/party games, I love how we are starting to get less games where she's just a damsel in distress, and I've always wanted another game with her as the main star and this game looks like it could be fun. My only gripe is that they only teased it here, not even giving a proper title, it kinda reminds me of when Nintendo teased stuff in the Wii U era of Directs. But honestly, its nowhere near detrimental or anything, I just thought it was kinda odd. It'll probably show up in a September Direct with a proper title.
Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon Remaster (2024) - Another game that was just a teaser trailer, though this game makes sense. It's just a remaster of the original 3DS game, it makes sense just to give a small teaser. I'm happy that this game is getting a remaster. Dark Moon really needs it in my opinion, it currently is only on a handheld system (the Nintendo 3DS) which is still a different ecosystem than the Switch is. I know many people wanted the first Luigi's Mansion game, but honestly, that just probably needs a HD Port like they did with Mario Sunshine on 3D All-Starts or Pikmin 1 & 2 like they announced in this Direct. Not every game needs the Prime Remastered treatment, though that would be heavily appreciated. Overall, this makes me happy, It was one of my favorite 3DS games and I can't wait to play it again.
Batman Arkham Trilogy (Fall 2023) - These games were on my personal "Ports I want to see on Switch" list and I'm so happy for this. Batman is one of my favorite DC Heroes and I'm so excited to see these games here. Weird that they don't have Arkham Origins in this collection, but I digress.
Were really trying to make sure every Smash Character has a Game on Switch. |
Metal Gear Master Collection Vol. 1 (Oct. 24th) - I'm happy this collection is on Switch, I've never played a MGS game so I definitely might tip my toes in the series with this. It seems very clear will get Vol. 2 on Switch as well, though for some reason they didn't even tease the idea of that, it seems weird to me.
Star Ocean 2nd Story R (Nov. 2nd) - Another HD-2D Remake for Switch by Square Enix. I'm happy Square likes to take the chance to do these remakes and make games with this style, but I gotta be honest, its starting to feel a bit claustrophobic. It just seems like we are getting a lot of these types of games from SE and I just hope that it doesn't become the only thing they do. Though this game does look interesting being more action focused than turn based.
WarioWare Move It! (Nov. 3rd) - Yeah... I really don't have much to say on this one. It's a WarioWare game with motion controls. Looks cute and fun, but that's about it.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Oct. 20th) - This game tugs at my heartstrings with how imaginative, unique, and lively it looks. So many people confuse it as an entry in the "New" Super Mario series and I wnat to let it be known now it so much more than that. It is a new direction for 2D Mario and it looks so good. Honestly, it looks "newer" than the actual "New Super Mario Bros." games look. I'm not kidding when I say that I instantly knew I was gonna preorder this game. I'm not going to gush for that long in this entry. I'm going to make an entirely separate post talking about this game. Just to let you know though, this was definitely a great highlight here.
So those are my opinions on some of the games in the direct, but what about you. What were your favorite or least favorite announcements featured. Let me know in the comments.
Thanks for reading. For more thoughts and opinions like this, keep tuning in to Nintendo Gamepoint+.
(Sigh) Feels good to be back.
