To make something absolutely clear, I DO NOT HATE EA. I don't particularly like sports games, but I think they make some really great games. (Garden Warfare or Peggle for Switch, please and thank you.) The company itself isn't bothering me, its just their E3 plans that give me a look of confusion.
For those who don't know, EA's "E3" plans, if you want to call them that, is to once again forgo E3 and have planned their own EA Play Event. This event will be open to the general public and the media, and will take place from June 10th-12th. One of these days will have EA's actual Press Event. Click here to know more.
Now, I say "once again" because they did this exact same thing last year. They held the EA Play Event During E3, and one of the big things about this was that it was open to the general public, this was a big deal because E3, at the time, wasn't. So they had a bit more of a broader audience. Another positive was that because it was their own event they had more freedom in their presentation. It still felt like E3, just not at E3.
My issue with this whole thing is that it doesn't make sense to do in 2017. I know that there has been some debate on whether E3 is worth doing or worth having every year, I personally think it is. This year E3 is making the event open to the public which means that it has not only become more relevant, but now its even easier for people to be more involved in it. Last year we didn't have this, so EA making their event open to the public was a selling point. The only problem I had with them doing "EA Play" was that it was basically an E3 showing minus E3, down to the press conference with TOO MANY SPORTS GAMES, and pointless celebrity cameos. (No Offense to Jamie Foxx)
This year has it a bit worse because the selling point of being open to the public is dashed because E3 is now open to the public. Which means the only thing EA has is the fact that they are completely in control of what happens at this event. To be honest, I'd rather them have this in conjunction with E3, Not ignore it entirely. Or, if they want to do this, why the SAME WEEK as E3? I know other companies like Xbox and Playstation will show off games from them, but it just doesn't make sense to me why'd they skip, especially if they do the exact same that they would've done at E3.
In the words of Val Kilmer's Batman, "It just raises too many questions." Nevertheless, I will watch their presentation, as I do every year, and I will try to enjoy myself.
With that said, what do you think of this news? Good? Bad? You don't care because you have a life? Let me know in the comments. Catch you guys next time.
P.S. Here is a bribe.

This is a Bingo Sheet I made for E3. (You can cross out Nintendo if you wish.) What do you want to see E3? Fill this out, play the game and see how you do. Hope you have fun?
