KID OR SQUID?! |
Also, I get 500 bonus idiot points for not taking any screen captures on my Switch. Aren't I SMRT.
I played the first Splatoon and I loved it. It was the first shooter game that I really got into that I didn't suck at. Some people were a bit unhappy with the content release system and how it was handled at launch, but it still turned out to be a really good game and I'm really happy that it did so well to warrant this sequel. I also thought that Nintendo was really smart in doing the first Splatoon Global Testfire. Giving players a chance to try out the game, get a feel for the controls, and test out the servers before launch so they can iron out any wrinkles. A good idea which ended up being a really good game release and gaining a strong fanbase. Lets not forget that Splatoon is a NEW IP that Nintendo took a risk on, but thank goodness they did because it became a new Nintendo icon that fans hoped would either get ported or get a sequel on Nintendo Switch (or NX at the time). Fast forward to Jan 12, 2017, Splatoon 2 is announced for Nintendo Switch for a summer release and fans were pretty happy. Fast forward once again to March, Nintendo announces Splatoon 2 Global Testfire which is what were talking about right now.
First off, I'm not going to talk about the servers and internet connection too much because A) this was a timed demo to TEST everything, and B) it varies greatly between each person playing. So there is no need to go in depth. I will say that I did find it annoying due to how long it took to get players together and that players dropped out in the middle of games, but again its a demo, I can let it slide.
Gameplay - Did you play the original Wii U game? Congrats, you are already halfway to being a pro player. I say halfway because you're still going to have to learn the ropes. The controls are pretty much a carbon copy of the Wii U ones with a notable exception. "B" is now the jump button and "X" is how you open the map because of the lack of a Gamepad Screen. I had to train my brain not make this mistake and its harder than it looks. The reason behind the change I can understand, The "B" button is closer to the right stick so its easier to reach. Still, I found myself looking at huge map every other minute so while it is a bit annoying it still is just something that can easily be adjusted to. Speaking of, the map system works well. Again, the change from the gamepad screen is something to get used to, but the way they implemented it works. I guess the only problem is that ease of access to the map that you had on the Wii U.
Weapons - Just like the original, each one of these weapons were unique and interesting to use and I have thoughts for each one.
Playing like this is actually really cool. |

- Splat Dualies - I think this is my new favorite. I like using that dodge roll a lot more than just turning into a squid to dodge attacks. The new curling bomb is fun, a bit hard to get the timing right, but when you do you can't help but smile when you splat someone by banking off a wall. The special is fun to use and I love it when two inklings have a battle in the air, but don't try to fly off the actual stage with it.
- Charger - I DON'T LIKE IT! I didn't like the charger in the original, I don't like it here. Admittedly I like the changes they made and I like the special weapon for it. Also, if you like chargers, congrats you are way better at using them than I am and I respect you for that. However, I did not like the charger.
- Roller - This is a very good upgrade. I liked using this more than I did in the first Splatoon. The different types of splats you can make via jumping or just running. Also, I love the Splatoon Halo Armorlock Special. Cool weapon set overall.
- Splattershot - If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Just give it a special similar to the inkstrike that actually is pretty well handled and fun to use every time you get it. Good for people who might need to get back in the swing of things or just prefer the classics.
Stages - I liked the stages. The Reef stuck out to me a bit more because that was the stage I really wanted to play on, and I liked the upgrades that they made since its initial reveal. Musselforge Fitness was also cool and it was fun to see for the first time. I hope the other stages that get revealed like Humpback Pump Track are just as fun.
So overall, after playing this demo I have high hopes for Splatoon 2 and I think its going to be a whole lot of fun. I can't wait to see what other stages have to offer and I really can't wait to see more weapons and specials. What did you think of the testfire? What do you think of Splatoon 2 or Splatoon in general. Leave a comment and let me know. Thanks for reading in and I'll catch you later.
Y'know. I have a bit of a random question. Is VOEZ any good? It reminds of Vocaloid and Hatsune Miku & Friends, that makes it very interesting considering what I'll post next time. ;)
